Goldenvoice, the promoter behind Coachella and FYF Fest, teamed up with Tyler, the Creator to throw his annual Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival. As the festival grows, Tyler and team imagine bringing an even larger experience to every facet of their undertaking.
For 2017, the braintrust approached 20 FT Bear to put a new twist on the Gnaw Stage, Artist’s Compound and VIP Area.
The Theme: camping. Make attendees feel as though they’ve entered a campground carnival. Our team designed and sourced far and wide to produce a distinct motif, and then carried that throughout our locations to glorify the event and make each area unique.
The Gnaw stage was a circular platform for which we created a realistic campfire with faux flames, foggers, boulders, logs and shrubs that gave the iillusion of a dj performing in the middle of a campfire. The Artist Compound was a twist on summer camp and lodge vibes – Camp counselor bartenders, tents, faux animal heads, ping pong and cornhole stations and vignettes adorned with canoes and paddles were interspersed around a virtual reality installation for Disney’s animated feature film Coco and an Instagram photo booth activation. The VIP area became the Camp Flog Gnaw Forest, an installation themed around the larger than life Disco Bee that Tyler tours with. Large rope beehives hung above Golf brand upholstered furniture. Guests were treated to arts & crafts activities in a campy style along with carnival games, and winners were gifted Camp Flog Gnaw swag.
The overall outcome far surpassed their expectations, and set a new expectation for these areas moving forward.
